ode to the iphone camera – an amateur’s dream – publicity tool extraordinaire
I found out two things: 1) my iphone camera takes lousy photographs at night – inside or out; and, 2) if you set the blog command for “full size” photos, iphone photos reveal their flaws.
All the photos you’ve seen on this blog have been taken by my trusty iphone. It truly takes better picture than my Olympus Stylus. Those sunsets you saw posts ago were untouched iphone photos. Really.
I mean, I can “andy-warhol-ize” my portrait as you witness on my masthead. (another iphone camera masterpiece), but I don’t think my snapshots can stand up to the real thing. Photographers out there are whispering, “no s—-t”. Ok, so I’m no Steiglitz.
But, I will stand by my iphone photos and really think that Apple is missing out by not making me their number one spokesperson. I mean, just like books. Just like music. Just like anything I love, I can’t stop kvelling* about it.
I am a publicist even in my sleep. It’s a mixed blessing. Ask my co-workers. Then ask my friends.
That’s how it is, all you college students looking for a career in pr. It’s partly a learned skill but the element that will sustain you is your personality. Not the painted on smile. Not the on cue giggle. (a dash of ADHD doesn’t hurt either)
It’s the true excitement for what you represent that will get you the most mileage. You can put it on, and, trust me, you’ll have to, but there’s an essential ingredient that we publicist creatures share. Enthusiasm. The real thing.
So, what we really are are hawkers and when we hawk from our guts we’re more likely to influence our prey. Sounds birdlike, doesn’ it?
