A hi tech musical interlude – tonight it’s definitely beyond books
If you are lucky enough to own a Mac computer circa this century, then you may have noticed the little guitar icon gizmo on the bottom of your screen. Garageband, they call it. Well, I am proud to say that the reason you won’t be reading a treatise on the state of books tonight is because I FIGURED IT OUT how to (finally) use the Garageband feature!
Right now, my electric Casio piano, is sitting to the right of me at the edge of my big oak dining room table-desk wired to my sleek white Imac. Midi to USB port or some such techie thing. Suffice it to say that I am now able to record music directly from my piano keyboard onto my desktop computer. Happy day! This is hardly a new invention but coming from my formerly no-tech world, it’s just plain AWESOME.
And, I although I enter the music from my piano, I can manipulate the sound to things like “whispering voices” and “ping pong pulses” and “lunar bounces”. Leave it to those boys and girls at Apple to think up these things. Pure genious.
In my continuous endeavor to push the creativity envelope, tonight I digress into the composer persona. A dear old friend has commissioned a soundtrack for her visualization CD and I am thrilled to provide one. And, if it weren’t for this request from her, I would never have forced myself to learn this interphasing of musical instrument to computer. Thank you, Kathy. Both tools are key to my existence but never before have the twain met. (huh??)
Perhaps one day I’ll provide a soundtrack to my blog posts. Sing my publishing tips to a snappy Baroque tempo to better stimulate the brain. Who knows? Maybe we’ll be talking about singing books someday. (I doubt it. That’s just plain goofy)
If you’re a musician who masquerades as a writer, or vice versa, I’d love to hear some of your stories. Or if you’ve had any technology breakthroughs of late. I’m all ears.
Until the next book-y post.
May you find the perfect soundtrack to get your through.
