Tech withdrawal, flu delirium, and other tales of woe

December 4, 2008 at 8:06 am

It’s 7:25 pm on Tuesday night and this is the first I’ve had access to the internet since I came home sick from work at 11:00 am. Anyone who knows how neurotic I am about my techie pals, iphone and imac is picturing me pacing the floors, itching with communication withdrawals. And, laughing.

Ironic, isn’t it?

The day that the flu beats me out of my office at HCI and drives me home, I am incommunicado. Well, that’s nearly true since my iphone was still functional. But, IT’S NOT THE SAME!  Was this God’s way of forcing me to sleep it off? To separate from one of my favorite sources of stress and force me to heal myself?

I’ll never know.

Here I am now, in a slight state of delirium, a frame of mind I once considered a good motivator for unbridled creativity. That was in my teenage years when bounties of poems and songs flowed through me to my pen when I was ailing from a fever, and by golly, some of them weren’t half bad.

So, if you’re hoping for some publishing wisdom, publicity tips, bookwise advice, you picked the wrong day to click me on. But, I am hopeful that you’ll find a least a little amusement when reading this. Especially those of you who claim I am having a love affair with my iphone.

Well, I am. It’s true. I’ll hide it no longer.

Silly as it sounds, this little magic gadget has delivered much pleasure and gobs of information my way. And, what about those iphone photos?? Huh? You gotta admit. Except for the very blurry ones (I know, I know), it’s hard to ignore what great pictures come from this flat, metal and magic gizmo. I’d like to think it has something to do with the eye of the ace photographer behind the mock shutter, but I really think anyone can take a great snap on an iphone.

Try it.

I even had an elderly gent at yesterday’s Rotary Club luncheon, Deerfield Beach chapter, where I did a dog and pony show about HCI, snap some stellar photos on my iphone. Nothing to it.

Tomorrow, or today for you, I’m hopeful that my flu-infused delirium will subside to a more balanced, productive state of mind that I can haul back over to my real office computer. The one filled with all kinds of media lists, press releases, memos, and artwork.

Where I will once again be the responsible publicity person that I’m paid to be and finally finish that galley letter and mailing and get it out the door into the media world.

I’m getting weak and luckily there’s a Netflix movie awaiting me in the next room.

And to all a good night (morning for you).

Sniffle.

About this Blog
I started this blog to create a "salon" type atmosphere where aspiring and seasoned authors, book lovers and lovers of the creative process can convene. My contribution is a mix of what's going on at my day job at HCI Books and beyond. And, beyond, in my imagination casts a pretty wide net.Creative posts are welcome but must fit in to the prevailing theme. (Say "book" a couple of times in your post, at least!) I'm PR Director at HCI for 14 years, consulting on the side, blogging, and studying operatic singing. I'm mother to Tito, Kiwi, Rashi and Mochi, three tweety birds and one puddy cat, respectively. I live high up over the beautiful intracoastal waterway and Atlantic ocean and I love snapping scenic photos on my iphone. I love the beach, and would be happy just pitching a tent there (with air conditioning). Welcome.
