Introducing – the fly on the wall series: spotlight publishing & publicity
Ok, so I have this blog and I have this website. What is it that I can give you that you may not find elsewhere. Besides my penchant for a little cynicism blended with some pollyanna-ish spiritual inspiration, I bring you real time experience of a publicity director working inside of a successful book publishing house – right now. Not some years ago, not as a subcontractor to the publisher, not as a freelancer. I am there right now enduring every up, down, inside and out experience that’s thrown at me.
So, what does that mean to you? It means that I can answer your questions based on reality. What’s really going on inside the publisher’s domain, not just theory or conjecture. What flies. What fails. How book titles are decided. How covers evolve. What goes on in editorial committee meetings as book proposals are discussed. Why do books have to have certain page counts? How does the publicity department work with authors.
On and on.
I am your fly on the wall of publishing and publicity.
Take advantage of me.
In this forum, feel free to ask me questions. Please don’t ask me for a full blown consultation. That’s something else. Ask me questions that you think others like yourself in the book publishing process might benefit from, too.
Isn’t this fun?
Ok, I will continue to blog as I traditionally do with all my silliness and iphone photos. But, with my fly on the wall hat, I need something from you.
Questions. Questions submitted in the comment area.
This is a new endeavor, let’s rock and roll!
