What do you hope people get from reading Living for Today?

I hope people will become inspired and educated. My hope is readers will not put down my book and walk away but join me in my crusade and become involved in ending the silence.

Who do you feel will benefit from reading your book?

I feel anyone that reads my book will benefit because they will become educated on sexual abuse, the effects it has on ones life, and the importance of talking about it. I feel parents will talk to their children about sexual abuse and survivors will find their voice in it.

How has your past changed you to be the person you are today?

My past has shown me even in tragedy triumph can be found. I have discovered that everything happens for a reason in life even when we don’t understand. It has made me a stronger and better person because of it.

What do you see Living for Today doing for others?

I see it as a movement in change to open the eyes of society to a silent epidemic. I have a vision of a snowball effect coming from my voice bringing others out of darkness and into the spotlight with me.  I am ready to take on this battle and win over the silence.

How do you handle your personal life as an open book for anyone to read?

I handle it with pride and courage for my mission is to get my message into the hands of everyone and my voice to be heard. I carry no shame, guilt, or doubt. I walk with my head held high with nothing to hide.

How is your faith changed as you have processed your past?

My faith has been strengthened for without God none of this would have been possible. He has walked along side me every step of the way. My faith has rescued me and allowed me to find the light at the end of a tunnel. It has also opened my heart to forgiveness for without it I still feel I would be harboring a lot of anger.

What do you think the media could do to bring awareness to sexual abuse?

The media needs to educate society on sexual abuse and bring national attention to the epidemic. It is the elephant in the studio the journalists are ignoring. When the media can address sexual abuse it will wake up society to how huge this problem we face as a nation really is.

About this Blog
I started this blog to create a "salon" type atmosphere where aspiring and seasoned authors, book lovers and lovers of the creative process can convene. My contribution is a mix of what's going on at my day job at HCI Books and beyond. And, beyond, in my imagination casts a pretty wide net.Creative posts are welcome but must fit in to the prevailing theme. (Say "book" a couple of times in your post, at least!) I'm PR Director at HCI for 14 years, consulting on the side, blogging, and studying operatic singing. I'm mother to Tito, Kiwi, Rashi and Mochi, three tweety birds and one puddy cat, respectively. I live high up over the beautiful intracoastal waterway and Atlantic ocean and I love snapping scenic photos on my iphone. I love the beach, and would be happy just pitching a tent there (with air conditioning). Welcome.
