Fly on the wall: Along the Rouge road media campaign…
Going Rouge is going well.
Books landed in stores on December 1 as planned. Amazon had a glitchy start getting the book properly positioned for sales, but now the book is where it should be, listed BEFORE that autobiography by you know who.
Publicity wise, we’re like pigs in the mud. Maybe, I should be careful with my metaphors since I am deriving more personal satisfaction from promoting this book than is both professionally or politically correct.
I’m supposed to show no bias, but in this case, I can’t help myself. I think I’m safe since I really don’t see myself working for any pro-Sarah Palin concerns in my career future.
To date, we’ve blasted the media with news of HCI’s acquisition of Going Rouge, its hitting bookstores, and now we’re infiltrating media in towns where we know book events are being held with Ms. Palin.
We think it’s important for these communities to know that there’s another book in town that challenges hers. Whether that’s news or not is a decision for their local media.
We’re just the messengers.
Next, we go into the writers’ hometowns who contributed essays to the book and try to get those media people talking, grass roots style.
Assisting me in this happy project is an expert messenger who really knows how to target the appropriate people to tell our side of the story. Paul Krupin (Direct Contact PR) has been blasting the media from his office in the Pacific Northwest and transmitted requests for review copies across the country at lightning speed.
In 40 minutes of sending out his news blast yesterday, Krupin sent me 57 inquiries from the media, responding to his offer for review copies of Going Rouge. When I turned on my computer this morning, there were 30 more.
Free copies of books might seem like a no brainer but it’s the quality of the people responding that is impressive. Paul expertly targeted political writers and newsy broadcasters and is reeling in media to the tune of Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, Time magazine, CNN, NY Times and a whole host of notable political bloggers.
My only fear is that these are our readers that might have bought the book and contributed to potential bestseller numbers. But rather, I trust that their commitment to a fair and balanced message will inspire them to share it with their audience.
Please don’t confuse my “fair and balanced” reference to the one of a particular tv news network. Interesting factoid: that very network requested a copy of Going Rouge even though they had one on hand that they accidentally exhibited during a promo for Sarah’s book.
Tough break guys!
The Going Rouge games have begun and from the steadily climbing amazon ranking and reports from the sales department, things are looking good.
I can’t think of a better end of year gift for a publisher. Well, maybe we could have pumped out something from Tiger Woods, but I’ll take this one.
Keep your eyes open for more Going Rouge media coverage.
Not to mention adding the book to your Christmas list!
